Hiking

Our Hiking Trails are the best around!  Hikers of all levels can find many trails to enjoy from easy to expert.  Hike through the woods or hike up a mountain.  Whether it be seeing a mountain range or looking at the many lakes from on top of a mountain, you are sure to see some of the most beautiful sites the world has to offer and you can do it right here in Old Forge. Below are some of the more popular trails in the area. Inquire about trail maps at the front desk.

McCauley Mountain Hiking Trails - McCauley Mountains has two hiking trails available.  Trail A is an expert hiking trail and about 5.2 miles long.  On this trip you will see Little Moose Mountain, Perry's Pond and of course McCauley. Trail B is a shorter hike lasting about 3.5 miles.  It is an intermediate trail that takes you towards Maple Ridge and passes by Gray Lake before getting back to McCauley.

Bald Mountain Trail - A one-mile hike with a few steep sections that will lead you to a beautiful view of the Fulton Chain of Lakes.

Bubb Lake & Sis Lake- During this 2.3 mile hike you will see all the beauty that these two lakes have to offer.

Moss Lake - This 2.5 mile loop is relatively level and offers camping, swimming, canoeing, hiking and fishing.

Cascade Lake - Hike 4.6 miles to Cascade Lake and on the way run into a beautiful waterfall.  Feel free to camp, fish, canoe or swim.

These are just a few of the many trails we have to offer.  We hope you will come again and again to see how many trails you can hike.

Mountain Biking

Old Forge is an excellent area for mountain biking. Our winter snowmobile trails turn into hundreds of miles of spring, summer and fall mountain bike trails. This is a great way to see the natural beauty that has made Old Forge so famous. Don’t forget the NORBA sponsored Black Fly Challenge Mountain Bike Race held every spring.

Below are some of the area's most popular mountain bike trails.

Black Bear Mountain
Twin Lakes - This trip will take you from North Lake Road in Forestport along a jeep path to Twin Lakes. Easy to Moderate

Safford Pond/Big Moose - This trip follows a snowmobile trail that connects Big Moose Lake and Lake Rondaxe. Moderate

McKeever/Woodgate/Woodhull Lake Loop - This 18 mile trail begins either in Woodgate or in McKeever.  Is a bit rocky in sections and you will need to walk occasionally. Can get wet in spots. Easy to Moderate
