Canoeing & Kayaking
Old Forge and the surrounding area is a great place to canoe and kayak. It is home to the start of the famous 90-miler Race, and Old Forge is well-known for its variety of difficulty levels for all. Enjoy a flat-water paddle on the Fulton Chain of Lakes, drift down a meandering river, or step up to something more adventurous on the Moose River. There are plenty of places to rent canoes and kayaks, and trips are available for the whole family.

Boating
In the center of the Old Forge Area is the Fulton Chain of Lakes - thirteen lakes connected from Old Forge north. Take a motor boat, jet ski or paddle your way in a canoe or kayak from the Old Forge Pond through 5th Lake. Although all connected, 6th Lake through 8th Lake are only accessible through other portages. Old Forge is also the start of the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail, a long-distance paddling trail connecting the major watersheds across the Adirondacks and Northern New England.
The Fulton Chain of Lakes is wonderful for all types of activities, including boating, jet skiing, water skiing, tubing, swimming, fishing, and in the winter, ice fishing and snowmobiling. There are several marinas, boat launches, fuel stops and lakeside restaurants along the way. The lakes and their surrounding mountains are a sight that should be seen by all. Remember, the Fulton Chain of Lakes is protected by law. It is illegal to: discharge sewage into or near the lake; dump garbage or refuse into the lake, its tributaries, or on frozen surfaces; to use soap or detergent for any purpose in the lake, on its shores or the shoreline. Please, if you bring anything to the lake, take it out with you.
